Family Night – Movies

This post is the first of a 3 part series about dedicating a night or day to reconnect with your family. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing with you some of the activities we enjoy doing together in hopes to inspire you to begin your own Family Night/Day.  Even if you can’t dedicate a whole day, begin with a night, even if it’s only once a month. You will be happy that you did.

We have dedicated Sunday as our Family Day.  We go to church in the a.m. and may have choir practice or some other church related activity to do after that, but for the most part Sundays are a pretty mellow day around my house. One of the things we enjoy doing as a family is cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie together.  This usually involves popcorn and/or some other kind of treat.  Often I will check Redbox to see if there are any new kids/family movies that I think will fit our family.  If that is a bust we will pick something from our DVD collection.  Here are some of our very favorite movies to watch as a family.

National Treasure 1 & 2

Night at the Museum 1, 2 & 3

The Croods

Despicable Me 1 & 2 and the Minions Movie

Ice Age 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

Over The Hedge

Nim’s Island 1 & 2

Rio 1 & 2

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 & 2

Madagascar 1, 2 & 3

Kung Fu Panda 1, 2 & 3

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Next week I will be covering family games we love.  If you do not want to miss a post don’t forget to subscribe at the top, right hand side of my page.  You will receive an e-mail whenever I post a new article which is generally a few times a week.

I would love to hear what some of your favorite family friendly movies are and if your family has a family night.

  1. Wonderful movie suggestions! We try to have a family movie night one day a week and often add in a family game night on another. We’re at the point where it’s getting hard to find movies for us all to watch since we’ve watched so many!

  2. We do family movie night almost every Friday night as our “regroup from the week” family time. We always have tacos and eat together in front of the TV in the living room while we watch something. We really enjoyed Nims Island recently and it spurred all kinds of outdoor adventures with the kiddos for a few weeks! 🙂

    1. Thats awesome Jamie! I love the dinner in front of the TV idea. My kids would love that! I don’t know if you have Netflix, but they have Return to Nim’s Island on there and it has Bindi Irwin in it. Another fun one to give a try. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
